La
Vignole
is a charming manor whose history and architecture go back
to the 15th century.
It
is known as the last staying place of Margaret of Anjou,
late Queen of England, famous for her active part in the
War of the Roses between her husband's family, Henry
the 6th Lancaster and the Duke of York's party.
She
died in 1480 in the parish of Dampierre. From its peaceful
hanging gardens on the cliff, you will enjoy dominant and
flabbergasting views over the Loire riverbed, the village's
roofs of Souzay-Champigny and the very well preserved
island facing the village.
The
area, "Parc Naturel de la Vallée de la Loire", is now a
UNESCO protected world heritage site.
Think
of yourself staying in this peculiar and tiny castle, 3
miles ( 5 km) upstream from Saumur, on the left bank
of the river, ideally located in Anjou and fully
equipped with a swimming pool, its garden full of
flowers, trees and shadows, a summer kitchen allowing
you to have your meals close to the pool, a winter garden
to rest in the coolness of the rock.
